Augustine of Hippo

Updated: Feb 13, 2019

Augustine of Hippo once wrote: “Lord, you made us for yourself; and the heart of man is restless until it finds its rest in Thee.”

There is a void, an empty place; a subconscious, inherent, inborn longing found deep within the heart, within the very core of every human being on the face of planet earth; it is a longing that lies beyond the senses. It cannot be explained. We all have this need to love something, or to worship something. Some worship athletes, singers, movie actors, places and things, and some, unknowingly even worship habits. No matter what color, race or creed, or where, or who they are in life, even if they seem to have the world and all its riches, are all still missing something precious in their lives.

We’ve all heard fantastic true stories of individuals who have done what would be considered incredible feats of courage and strength to save a life, or other situations and physical challenges that they are immediately facing, and have done these wondrous things without thinking. We feel good inside when we have helped someone with a need and find it a feeling of fulfillment. We must ask ourselves a question; why is that?

In reality, this innermost desire that we all have is to connect with the very Source of life itself; our Creator. Why? It is simply because we have all been made that way. Simply because our Creator’s greatest desire is to connect with us on a personal level.

I John 4:19 states: “We love Him because He first loved us.” We would not know love, unless love first of all existed; unless it had a source of origin. How would we ever know about love unless it had been revealed to us; I John 4:10 says “Herein is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us, and sent His Son be the propitiation for our sins”. God’s love goes far beyond what we know as love in the natural sense. You see beloved, human, natural love caters to the wants of the flesh. God’s unconditional spiritual love caters to the needs of the soul. Throughout the inspired scriptures, we find one thing above all else; our loving Creator is interested and concerned with healing your soul, purifying your inner man and reconciling you back to Himself, so that who you truly are, can be unveiled and revealed. His likeness, His glory! The good news is that He has done it, and the work is finished!

You see, God displayed His love over 2000 years ago in the being of Jesus of Nazareth. He was the manifestation, the example of our heavenly Father to all of mankind, for He said in John 10:30 “I and the Father are One.” He also stated in John 17:21, “…that they all may be one, as thou Father art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be One in Us.” In I Corinthians 6:17 the apostle Paul states, “But he that is joined unto the Lord is One Spirit.” What an awesome thought when we realize, that this Supreme Being of Light, who graciously gives us life from one second to the next, would want to have such a personal and intimate relationship with us; to fellowship with us on a daily basis, just as we do with our loved ones, our fellow workers and those we come in contact with everyday in the natural realm. Impossible, you say? Not according to the inspired scriptures that He left us, and if you believe them.

Psalms 8:2 & Hebrews 2:6 state: “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?” When you study this deeper, you’ll find that it says this: ‘What is man, why is man, how is man, for what good purpose is that which is man, that your mind is so full of him, that you God, would super-impose, oversee and enjoin yourself to him with supernatural influence, and envelope him in such a haze of brilliancy, to be a replica of you?’

Beloved child of God, your Father does not want for you to simply believe that you are merely human, and that you are meant to just suffer in this life and that your only hope is that of someday going to heaven and only then, knowing healing and deliverance and His wonderful Truth. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” His desire is for us to experience the abundant life He spoke of now, because in truth we are radiant beings of Light, for the scriptures declare that He is the Father of Lights; that He calls us children of Light.

Jesus the Living Christ, unveiled Himself to natural man in a natural way to gave us His Spirit because He wants to share the hidden mysteries of His Kingdom; the hidden Truths about His Glory and the power of His precious Holy Spirit who dwells within the very core of our being, for we are created in the image and likeness of the God of the universe. Our Father! Think about it! In Ephesians 5:8 Paul states “…for ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of Light.” This is not just a statement that sounds good; this is Truth and reality that is given to us.

It is recorded in Luke 17:20, 21 that Jesus said this: “The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither say, Lo here! Or lo there! For behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.” So you see, it is not with outward observation as much as it is through inward experience. It is not just a mere, religious belief with its own rules and regulations, its dogmas, rituals and man-made traditions, but an actual encounter, an experience! Jesus didn’t come here to establish more religion; He came to reconcile you back once again, to restore you to what Adam was seduced to think that he had lost in the ‘garden of Eden’, which was dominion over the earth realm though an intimate one on one relationship that only you and He can have. By the way, if you have never had this encounter with Jesus, it’s time that you did, for “Today is the day of salvation, now is your appointed time.” All you have to do is believe it, and ask Him to awaken you to it by giving your life to Him.

In the model prayer found in Matthew 6:10, Jesus revealed another wonderful truth. He is quoted as saying: “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven.” We’re looking to have something, someday, that Jesus has already placed in our hearts when He resurrected on the 3rd Day. Its plain to see that His desire is to have all the wonders and joys of heaven upon the earth to be experienced and enjoyed as they were before Adam fell from God-consciousness down to self-consciousness by deciding to follow his human inclinations rather than following and obeying the leadership of his Father’s Spirit.

Believe this child of God, we are at the time of a ‘great awakening’ being birthed in the earth right now, in those who have disciplined themselves with dedication and consecration; and that is the great awakening of the sons of God!

Everywhere we look and most of the events taking place today seem to be leading to great destruction. However, the Creator of heaven and earth will supernaturally intervene by making Himself known not only by signs and wonders, but by great power in a company of people that He has chosen for this hour! Something must and will be done to change the condition of the world as it stands today with it’s sickness and disease, it’s wars and hatred of mankind toward one another, the decaying morality that is blatant everywhere you look (even the weak, frail and powerless condition of the church itself), or man might totally destroy himself and this world with it. But this is not our loving Creator’s plan, and it never has been. God loves mankind above everything else that He has created and His intention is never to lose it! We are about to witness the ‘greater works’ that Jesus spoke about John 14:12: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.” In other words ‘Those that are persuaded and are consistent in their profession by word and life style, that believe the things that I am teaching, I will direct even as my Father has directed Me.’ (paraphrased). Jesus showed us the way, the works are for us to accomplish. Beloved, this world has never been out of His control, and never will be.

We must get our minds on fulfilling the ‘great commission’ that Jesus mandated. By having an intimate relationship with Him we are guaranteed heaven, are we not? We must not be in such a hurry to get there, for eternity is forever. Let us have compassion on the hurting, the maimed and bleeding in heart. We must pick up our cross daily until we finally die to ‘self’ that we may come into the resurrection power of the Living Christ! Paul stated in Philippians 3:10, 11 “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death: if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

There is a wonderful life of prosperity, joy and peace in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. Let us, as people of God unite together in prayer and ask to be used for His Glory! God is Love and we are called to be extensions of this wonderful Love, our wonderful Savior.

Walk in the Light of the Son; realize Peace that has always been. Child of God, live forever!
